  1. Definitions You Need to Know

Aimia – Proprietary Loyalty Canada Inc., our partner in providing our Rewards Program.

Authorized User – someone for whom you have given permission to have a Visa Card on your Visa Account and to make transactions on your Visa Account.

Citizens Bank – Citizens Bank of Canada.

My Visa Rewards Plus Program Service Centre – the head office of Aimia.

Points – My Visa Rewards Plus points which you will earn for every Purchase you make on your Visa Card if you have chosen a Visa Account that comes with the Rewards Program.

Primary Cardholder – the first person who applied for the Visa Card and signed the application.

  1.  Vancity and Citizens Bank Visa Cards that Can Earn Points

The following Visa Cards are eligible for earning Points if you have chosen a Visa Account that comes with the Rewards Program:

Vancity

  • enviro™ Classic*

  • enviro Gold™

  • enviro ExpenseGold™

  • enviro Gold™ Accelerator

Citizens Bank

  • Shared Interest™ Classic*

  • Shared Interest™ Gold

  • Shared Interest™ Gold Accelerator

The issuer of your Visa Card – Vancity or Citizens Bank – will be shown on the face of your Visa Card. When we say “we” or “us” in this Contract, we mean Vancity or Citizens Bank, whichever is the issuer of your Visa Card, together with Aimia, our partner in providing our Rewards Program.

When we say “you” in this Contract, we mean the person who applied for the Visa Card and signed the application. If more than one person signed the Visa Card application as co-applicants, then “you” means each person who signed the Visa Card application.

If you have one of the Visa Cards listed above and have chosen a Visa Account that comes with the Rewards Program, you will earn Points for every Purchase you make on your Visa Card. If you have not made at least your minimum payment on your Visa Account for 90 days or more past the payment due date, then you will lose the Points accumulated on your Visa Account.

  1. How You Can Earn Points

The Rewards Program is based on a Points system. Subject to these terms and conditions, you will earn Points based on the dollar amount of Purchases you make on your Visa Card. You will not earn Points on Cash Advances, Cash-Like Transactions, Balance Transfers, writing Visa Cheques or for the amounts you pay in interest, annual fees or any other types of fees on your Visa Account.

The number of Points you will earn depends on the type of Visa Card you have as follows:

Vancity Visa Cards

Points you will earn with your enviro Visa Cards

enviro Classic with Rewards Program

1 Point with every $2 Purchase

enviro Gold with Rewards Program

1 Point with every $1 Purchase

enviro ExpenseGold with Rewards Program

1 Point with every $1 Purchase

enviro Gold Accelerator with Rewards Program

1.5 Points with every $1 Purchase

Citizens Bank Visa Cards

Points you will earn with your Shared Interest Visa Cards

Shared Interest Classic with Rewards Program

1 Point with every $2 Purchase

Shared Interest Gold with Rewards Program

1 Point with every $1 Purchase

Shared Interest Gold Accelerator with Rewards Program

1.5 Points with every $1 Purchase

If you return a Purchase and get a refund, we will reverse the charge of the Purchase on your Visa Account and we call this amount a “credit”. When we give you a credit on your Visa Account because you’ve returned a Purchase or for any other reason, we will also deduct the same number of Points that you earned when you made this Purchase.

If there is more than one Visa Card on your Visa Account – because there are several co-applicants and/or Authorized Users – all Purchases made with any of these Visa Cards will earn Points for your Visa Account. This means that all Authorized Users earn Points for you, not for themselves.

You cannot transfer points earned in other points programs such as those that are offered by other credit card companies, banks or credit unions to this Rewards Program. If you have both a Vancity and a Citizens Bank Visa Account, or if you have more than one Vancity Visa Account and each of the accounts earns Points, you can transfer Points between these Visa Accounts and you will have to pay a $25 fee each time you do this.

Earn Double Points with Travel Bookings

You can earn double Points from the amount of Points you usually earn when making a Purchase with your Visa Card when you make a travel booking through the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre or on myvisarewardsplus.com and you use your Visa Card. This applies to your Purchase of either the full value or a portion of your travel booking that is charged to your Visa Card.

Here’s an example of how double Points work when you purchase a $500 travel booking through the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre or on myvisarewardsplus.com using your Visa Card:

enviro Classic with Rewards Program

Shared Interest Classic with Rewards Program

Earn 500 Points

enviro Gold with Rewards Program

enviro ExpenseGold with Rewards Program

Shared Interest Gold with Rewards Program

Earn 1,000 Points

You will not earn double Points when you purchase any travel insurance products and services or merchandise through the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre or on myvisarewardsplus.com with your Visa Card.

  1. Important Information About Your Rights and Responsibilities in the Rewards Program

Points have no monetary value, and can only be used to claim rewards under the Rewards Program. We will not provide refunds or credits on Points or on credit balances created by Points that are not used in the event that your Visa Account is closed or terminated for any reason.

  • You are responsible for keeping track of the number of Points you have in your Visa Account. You will see how many Points you’ve earned and redeemed during a statement period and your Points balance on each of your statements and online at myvisarewardsplus.com. You can also find out your Points balance online at myvisaaccount.com and through our 24-hour automated phone line at 604.877.4999 or toll-free from outside Greater Vancouver at 1.800.611.8472.

  • When you receive your Visa Account statement, you must review your Points balance and let us know of any mistakes within 30 days after the end of your statement period date. If we do not hear from you within that 30 days, we will assume that your Points balance is correct and we will not correct any mistakes you point out later. However, if we realize that we have incorrectly credited Points to your Visa Account, we may reverse the Points at any time.

  • If you have not made at least your minimum payment on your Visa Account for 90 days or more past the payment due date, then you will lose the Points accumulated on your Visa Account and you will not have access to the myvisarewardsplus.com website.

  • When you redeem Points, you are responsible for declaring the total value of the merchandise or travel rewards received to tax authorities, if applicable.

  • We may send you information about the Rewards Program from time to time. It is your responsibility to make sure that we have your correct mailing and/or email address. We will not be responsible if anything we send to you is lost or delayed in the mail.

  • When two partners or spouses have applied for a Visa Account, and if you get a divorce or separate, your Points cannot be split between the co-applicants. All Points accrue to the Visa Account.

  • Upon your death, and if there is no co-applicant for the Visa Card, if any of your immediate family members have a Vancity or Citizens Bank Visa Account, all Points in your Visa Account can be transferred to their Visa Account and you don’t have to pay a fee. To do this your Visa Account must be paid in full and we will need a written request to make the Points transfer within 90 days of the date of your death from someone who is authorized to deal with your estate (such as an executor). If your Visa Account is not paid in full within 90 days after the date of your death, you will lose all of your Points and we will not transfer your Points to anyone.

  1. When We May Cancel or Make Changes to the Rewards Program

We may decide at any time to stop offering the Rewards Program. In that case, you may no longer be able to redeem your Points.

We may also cancel your participation in the Rewards Program, and cancel any Points or other benefits you have earned if:

  • you have not made at least your minimum payment on your Visa Account for 90 days or more past the payment due date

  • you have not made Purchases with your Visa Card or have not redeemed your Points for 24 months in a row

  • you fail to follow any of the terms or conditions set out in this Contract, or if you fail to fulfill any of your responsibilities under your Visa Card Contract

  • you abuse your Rewards Program privileges in any way

  • you are dishonest about any information that you give to us (or to any of our partners or affiliated companies)

We may also decide at any time to change the terms and conditions of the Rewards Program, such as changing the way in which you’ll earn Points, the number of Points you’ll need to redeem for different rewards, the list of rewards you can redeem Points for, the process you’ll follow to redeem Points, or changing the time period before Points expire.

If we cancel or make changes to the Rewards Program, or if we cancel your participation in the Rewards Program and your Points, we’ll try to let you know ahead of time, but we are not required to do so, and we will not be responsible for reimbursing you in any way or making any kind of payment to you.

If you close your Visa Account, your Points will automatically be cancelled and you will not be able to redeem them.

  1. Redeeming Your Points

Once you have accumulated 2000 Points you can begin to redeem your Points. In order to redeem points you can use your Visa Card number and password (and where there are co-applicants, you use the Primary Cardholder’s Visa Card number and password) to access and redeem Points on your Visa Account on myvisarewardsplus.com or through the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre. All Points earned on your Visa Account belong to you (including all Points that are earned on Purchases made by your Authorized Users).

You may designate anyone (including any Authorized Users) to redeem Points on your behalf. To do this you must fill out a “Authorization Form” online at myvisarewardsplus.com under the “my profile” tab or call the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre.

  1. Redeeming Your Points for Vancity Financial Products

If you are a Vancity member, you can redeem Points for Vancity financial products that can help you achieve your long-term financial goals. You can top up your Vancity registered and non-registered savings and investments, or pay down your Vancity borrowing, including your mortgage and line(s) of credit. You can redeem Points online at myvisarewardsplus.com or call us at 604.877.4999, or toll-free from outside Greater Vancouver at 1.866.611.8472. Additional terms and conditions may apply.

We may change the list of Vancity financial products you can redeem Points for and the number of Points you’ll need to redeem each financial product at any time. You can always find the up-to-date list of financial products that are available to redeem your Points at myvisarewardsplus.com.

If you have a Citizens Bank Visa Card or if you are not a Vancity member, you will not be able to redeem Points for Vancity financial products unless you become a Vancity member. To become a Vancity member, go online at vancity.com/Membership.

  1. Redeeming Your Points for Travel Rewards

You can redeem Points for travel rewards that are available in the Rewards Program, like airline travel, hotel rooms, car rentals, vacation packages, and more.

When you redeem travel rewards, you can choose to:

  • pay for your entire travel booking with your Points

  • use your Points to cover a portion of your travel booking and pay for the remainder of the cost with your Visa Card (also known as “Points Top Up”)

  • pay for the entire booking with your Visa Card

You will earn double Points for the full or partial value of your travel booking that you pay for with your Visa Card. You can do this through myvisarewardsplus.com or the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre by calling 1.866.661.3377.

Other Important Information About Redeeming Points for Travel Rewards

  • You can redeem Points to book travel arrangements at any time – there are no “black-out” periods – but reservations and seating are based on availability and there may be limited space during holidays, special events, major conventions and other heavily-travelled periods.

  • Rewards Suppliers will have their own policies that may apply to the travel arrangements that you book through the Rewards Programs. Rewards Supplier may vary from time to time and may differ among Rewards Suppliers. Some Rewards Suppliers may require pre-payment or have other requirements.

  • It is your responsibility (and anyone travelling with you) to find out about the Rewards Supplier’s policies, terms and conditions and to obey them.

  • You can only change or upgrade a travel arrangement through the Rewards Program if you booked the reservation through the Rewards Program.

  • We recommend that you book all travel arrangements a minimum of 7 days in advance.

  • Travel space and prices are only confirmed when the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre confirms the reservation with the Rewards Supplier. Prices you have been quoted may change based on availability at the time of booking.

  • Once your travel arrangements have been confirmed through the Rewards Program, the Rewards Supplier or any other company that is involved in providing part of your travel arrangements may charge you:

    • to make any changes to your route or travel dates

    • for any cancellations or “no-shows”

    • additional charges such as taxes and booking fees

    • We are not responsible for reimbursing you or paying for any of these charges.

  • Other travel service providers may be offering travel arrangements that are not available for booking through the Rewards Program. The Rewards Program will not price match against any other travel service providers.

  • You (and anyone travelling with you) are responsible for making sure that you have all necessary travel documents with you on departure and at all other times when required (such as current passports, visas and identification). Where your travel tickets or other documents are issued electronically, they will be sent to the email address you provided. Any other travel documents will be sent by the Rewards Supplier through the mail to the last address you have provided. We are not responsible if you do not have the necessary travel documents with you and we will not owe you any compensation. It is your responsibility to check with the Rewards Supplier for all estimated check-in, departure and arrival times.

  • We do not have any control over the employees, equipment or operations of any Rewards Supplier. There will be a separate contract between you (and anyone travelling with you) and the Rewards Supplier. The Rewards Supplier will only be responsible to you for items listed in that contract, or as required by law.

  1. Redeeming Your Points for Merchandise and Gift Cards

The Catalogue includes a broad range of merchandise and gift cards that you can redeem with your Points.

When you redeem Points for merchandise rewards, you can choose to:

  • pay for the merchandise entirely with your Points

  • use your Points to cover 50% or more of the merchandise cost and pay for the remainder of the cost with your Visa Card (called “Points Top Up”).

In order to use the Points Top Up option, you must have at least half of the Points required for the item – for example, for an item requiring 5,000 Points, you must redeem at least 2,500 Points toward the item in order to pay for the remainder in cash. Points Top Up is not available for purchasing gift cards. You will not earn double Points when you purchase any merchandise through the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre or on myvisarewardsplus.com with your Visa Card.

Other Important Information About Merchandise

  • Prices for each item in the Catalogue will be listed as the number of Points required to purchase the item.

  • Rewards Suppliers may at any time (without notice) make changes to models, specifications, patterns and pricing. We may change the number of Points required to purchase an item in order to take account of these changes. We are not responsible for any changes in item prices.

  • It may sometimes be necessary for Rewards Suppliers to substitute one item for another. If an item you want to purchase is not available and there is no suitable substitute available, we will let you know that you must select a new item. If you receive a substitute item and you are not happy with it, you may return it at no cost. Once the item has arrived at the warehouse, it will be inspected and processed in the system as a returned item. If the item is in good condition, the Points will be credited back to your account.

  • Delivery of merchandise usually takes 3-6 weeks from the time that we receive your order. You should allow even more time if you are ordering items for holidays or special occasions. Multiple orders are not always shipped together, so you may receive more than one shipment to complete an order. We are not responsible for delays in the delivery of the merchandise. Deliveries cannot be made to a post office box, rural routes, or to addresses outside of Canada.

  • Whenever you receive a shipment of merchandise you must check it immediately to make sure your order is complete and that it has not been damaged. Do not sign for a package if it has been damaged – you should refuse delivery instead. Only sign for the number of cartons and items that you receive in good condition. If, after opening a package, you discover damaged merchandise or missing parts, contact the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre. They will let you know the process for returning damaged or defective merchandise. If you return merchandise, it must be unused and in its original packaging.

  • We always try to ensure that all information in the Catalogue is correct, but we are not responsible for any errors in the Catalogue. We will correct any errors and may turn down a Points redemption request even if incorrect information has been included in the Catalogue.

  • Every item of merchandise in the Catalogue is covered by a manufacturer’s warranty. We are not responsible for product or service defects. We do not make any express or implied guarantee, warranty or representation of any kind with respect to any item of merchandise or any service that you purchase through the Rewards Program. In some cases, the warranty will only be honoured if the item in question has been put together or installed by a professional, for example if the item is a bicycle, and this would be at your cost.  If this is the case, a disclaimer would be inside the package and/or it would be mentioned in the owner’s manual.

  1. Redeeming Your Points for Charitable Donations

You can redeem your Points for making charitable donations. When you redeem your Points for charitable donations you can choose to either:

  • Make a charitable donation to a registered Canadian charity; or

  • Make a charitable donation to the Vancity Community Foundation.

If you choose to redeem your points to make a donation to a registered charity you can do so through the My Visa Rewards Plus Service Centre or by choosing from a drop down list of charities provided by the Canada Revenue Agency on myvisarewardsplus.com.

If you choose to make a donation to the Vancity Community Foundation, the Foundation will direct the funds to a registered Canadian charity on your behalf. Your donation may be pooled with donations from other sources.

  • because of anything done (or not done) by any Rewards Supplier, its employees, or any other person or company

Rewards Suppliers are committed to providing quality service. However, we are not responsible to you if a Rewards Supplier doesn’t deliver a good or service you have purchased. While every effort will be made to satisfy you with a replacement good or service or with a credit adjustment of Points, we will not be responsible for paying any costs because a Rewards Supplier failed to deliver rewards.

We are also not responsible if a Rewards Supplier withdraws from the Rewards Program or discontinues or cancels any rewards offered through the Rewards Program.

You agree to this Contract, and any changes we may make to it, being written in English.

This Contract is made under the provincial law of British Columbia and any federal laws of Canada that apply in British Columbia. This means that if we ever disagree about anything in this Contract and we have to go to court, it will be a court in British Columbia and the court will follow British Columbia law.

If we are allowed to do something under this Contract but we choose not to do it, this does not mean that we have given up our right to do it again in the future.

In terms of our legal responsibility to you, we will not be liable to you under any circumstances for any indirect, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages of any kind, whether or not your claim is made under this Contract or otherwise. This means that if you ever suffer any kind of loss or damage (such as loss of profits, lost revenues or loss or interruption of business) in connection with the Rewards Program, or if you feel that you are entitled to compensation for something we have or have not done, even if you haven’t suffered a direct financial loss, we will not be responsible for reimbursing you or compensating you in any way.

These Terms are subject to change at any time without notice to you.
